France Triumph Over Ireland in Women's Six Nations Opener Despite Red Card
France kicked off their Women's Six Nations campaign with a hard-fought 27-15 victory over Ireland in Belfast, overcoming a 20-minute red card for Gabrielle Vernier.
Vernier, who opened the scoring with the game's first try, saw her 45th-minute yellow card upgraded to red by the TMO bunker after a high tackle. Despite this setback, France held firm, sealing the win with Emilie Boulard’s late try and 12 points from Morgane Bourgeois’ boot.
Ireland pushed the visitors hard, with number eight Aoife Wafer scoring twice and Neve Jones also crossing the line. However, France’s dominance in contact and clinical finishing proved decisive.
As the tournament progresses, Ireland will seek redemption against Italy, while France will aim to continue their momentum at home against Scotland.
